UNIT 12 DIFFERENCES BETWEEN L1 AND L2 LEARNING

The learning process has some aspect to take into consideration when people are increasing their knowledge about any language. Some of these aspect are the differences between L1 (first language) and L2 (second language). As an example the age is an important factor because in L1 learning starts when the learner is a baby and in L2 usually starts in primary or secondary school. That is the reason why some people find really difficult to learn L2. They are not accustomed, because they did not receive input or stimuli since they were children.
Another important fact is the motivation to learn. In L1 learns are motivated to learn the language because they need to communicate with different purposes. On the other hand L2 learners they only study the language because they have to do it, or it is a requirement for the school, university and so on.
As a conclusion, I can mention that learning process has many characteristics in L1 and L2 such as the motivation, maturity, the different expectation of people in general, the exposure and the interaction to cite a few. I learned in this unit all the differences between L1 and L2 in order to correct some patterns in my students like for example the lack motivation and exposure to the L2. Also as future teacher we really need to focus on the necessities of all students, I mean to teach them thing that they are going to use in their lives. Also,  according to their learning styles in order to provide them confidence to do all the assignments.

UNIT 11 THE ROLE OF ERROR

Making mistakes plays an important part in the language learning process. As future teacher we need to take into consideration that mistakes help students to improve and in the future to avoid committing the same errors over and over again. There are two varieties of mistakes. They are errors and slips. The first one is when learners try to say something that is beyond their level of knowledge. On the other hand, slips are the result of tiredness worry or temporarily emotions. Errors are integral part of language acquisition. We can say that there are two big reasons why people commit error in language learning. The first one is the influence of the mother tongue. These kinds of mistakes are normal in learners that are learning a second language. As an example A student that is learning French use to say instead of ‘’Yes’’ instead of ‘’Oui’’or vice versa. That phenomenon is called interference. Some learners use or try to use the same patterns, lexis and even grammatical structure to interpret the target language.

As a conclusion,   I consider that the role of error is directly connected with the language learning process. It is necessary to commit errors in order to realize about what we need to improve to overcome these errors. I learned different kinds of mistakes. I will apply this knowledge with my student through many pieces of information asking for correction about grammar mistakes, syntax and so on. Also we can develop speaking activities to avoid fossilization.
