As future English teachers, we need to know what are
the necessities of our students, or the reasons they have to learn a new
language. In some cases could be for praise,
or maybe other needs like for
example to become more fluent in the language or could be for professional
needs. According with the Lerner’s necessities we can cite that all personal
needs has to do with age, gender, cultural background to mention a few of them.
Also the learning styles are very
important because they influence directly to the learners. Some of the most important learners needs are
for example; specific target language,
specific language subskills, the
learner autonomy, specific
vocabulary and grammar, functions,
text types and so on.

As a conclusion, I can say that Adults or older
teenagers with specific professional, general or academic goals for learning English need courses that meet their needs. I
consider in my personal opinion that as future professionals in education,
teachers must create English courses according
to the necessities of students, or people in general. I learned how to arrange
my classes according to my students’ need and I consider that I will use this
knowledge in the future to create special English courses for my students
taking into account the requirements or necessities of the different kinds of
students. For example, if I have a group of businessmen, I will teach them Business
English, I mean special vocabulary, or conversations. If I have students that
need to take the TOELF exam I will teach them techniques to take the exam,
TOEFL vocabulary, etc.
